CURRENT PROJECTS
01. Feedback Sandwich
We have developed a study that intends to evaluate the effectiveness of performance feedback in a virtual environment. Participants will be assessed based on their ability to recall and apply mathematical concepts learned in secondary school after receiving a certain type of feedback: no feedback, constructive feedback, and sandwich feedback (FBS). Based on previous findings, we hypothesize that task performance after receiving feedback in the FBS form will be better than those who receive corrective-only or no feedback at all.
03. Seeds of Leadership
This project is an investigation of the degree to which sports participation earlier in life matters to leadership behaviors later in life. Using data from a longitudinal study conducted by researchers at CSU Fullerton, we are looking at the degree to which the breadth and intensity of sports participation during high school can predict leadership styles and leadership role attainment at age 29 years.
02. Inspired Leaders
Inspiration is commonly seen as something that leaders give to followers. But do leaders have it themselves? Are leaders inspired? To what extent does being inspired matter to being a leader? The psychological construct of inspiration has been described as a positive emotion that awakens a person to possibilities beyond the mundane (Thrash & Elliot, 2003). It enegizes and directs behavior, and it can vary in frequency and intensity.
04. Social Skills
We are developing evidence-based leader assessment and development workshops. One of which is a social skills for leadership workshop based on Riggio's Social Skills model (1986, 1989). This framework divides basic communication skills into three categories -- expressivity, sensitivity, and control -- that function on the emotional and social levels. Participants will be assessed, provided individualized reports, and engage in interactive exercises designed to develop these social skills.
